Giovane's closes in Salinas, which means one less venue for live music.

The New Year opens with some sad news: Giovane's, the Salinas pizzeria that hosted a number of live music shows in 2009, has been shuttered.

Owners Randy and Sarah Young e-mailed a simple statement Sunday with no specific reason for the closure. Here is the e-mail:

Just wanted to let all of you know that Giovane's has officially closed.

The closure leaves only a few live music venues open in Salinas, particularly those that pull in and are geared toward younger audiences.
